What Is a Stainless Steel Mesh Filter Cartridge?
A stainless steel mesh filter cartridge, also known as a stainless steel wire mesh filter cartridge, is a cylindrical filter cartridge made primarily from woven stainless steel mesh. It is a surface filter, with a single layer of woven mesh or multiple layers of sintered mesh as its main filter medium, and perforated mesh can be used as internal support to protect the filter layer.
Made of high-quality stainless steel, Filson stainless steel mesh filter cartridges offer a robust structure and superior corrosion resistance. With high dirt-holding capacity, they perform particularly well in high-flow applications. You can customize the wire diameter (0.025–1.8 mm) and the number of mesh layers to meet your process requirements.

Main Features
Filson stainless steel mesh filter cartridge combines high strength, extreme durability, precise filtration, and cost-effective reusability, making it the ideal choice of a variety of industrial applications.
Constructed from heavy-duty stainless steel with an internal support structure, it exhibits excellent mechanical strength, capable of withstanding differential pressure of up to 10 bar.
Resistant to high temperatures, corrosion, oxidation, and a wide range of chemicals. Thanks to its exceptional durability, it is suitable for demanding industrial applications.
With a multi-layer, graded mesh structure that ranges from coarse to fine, woven stainless steel mesh features high porosity and low flow resistance, significantly reducing the risk of clogging.
The smooth surface allows for easy cleaning, while the quick-connect interface enables rapid replacement. Compatible with online steam sterilization and ultrasonic cleaning, ensuring reliable reuse.
Provides a stable micron rating for sintered mesh structures. Uniform mesh openings deliver precise filtration even in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
The fully welded construction removes all risk of leakage and prevents mesh shedding effectively. This both extends its service life and reduces maintenance costs.
Key Components
Filson stainless steel mesh filter cartridges consist of the following key components:
- Filtration medium: Single or multiple layers of woven stainless steel filter mesh for precise and stable particle retention;
- Central support core:Perforated or coarse-mesh screen, offeringradial support and protecting the filtration medium;
- Embouts : Guarantee correct positioning and reliable sealing of the filter cartridge inside the housing;
- O-rings: Fitted in the end cap groove to avoid leakage;
- Connection type: DOE, 222, 226, threaded, and other styles;
- Optional outer protective layers: Prevent mechanical damage during installation and transport, helping extend service life.

Stainless Steel Wire Mesh Pleated Filter Cartridge
Featuring a pleated design, the stainless steel wire mesh pleated filter cartridge has approximately three times the surface area of a smooth cylindrical type. This results in high flow rate, low pressure drop, and high dirt-holding capacity.
When constructed with a sintered mesh structure and a central support frame, it offers higher strength and better pressure resistance, making it suitable for high-pressure filtration systems.
With filtration accuracy ranging from 3 to 200 μm, these cartridges are commonly used for hydraulic oil filtration in automotive manufacturing and industrial equipment.
Why Choose Stainless Steel Mesh Filter Cartridge?

Filson produces stainless steel mesh filter cartridges without the use of resin or adhesive. We use TIG welding for precision seam sealing and plasma arc welding for high-strength structural connections, delivering solid, clean welds with consistent quality. In addition, they undergo an ISO 2942 bubble point test before leaving the factory to ensure there are no defects.
We work with industry-leading raw material suppliers that mark their products with laser-engraved batch codes for complete material traceability and strict quality control. Our stainless steel mesh filter cartridges offer direct interchangeability with leading brands such as Pall, Porvair, Parker, Norman, and others.
Application Examples
Stainless steel mesh filter cartridges are applicable to industrial liquid and gas filtration, as well as the filtration of acidic or alkaline solutions.

During drilling fluid circulation, these cartridges remove cuttings and solid particles from the mud, minimizing equipment wear, protecting mud pumps and drill bits, and ensuring stable system operation.

In chemical fiber production, these filters remove gels and impurities from the polymer melt before it enters the spinneret, avoiding fiber breakage and spinneret blockage to ensure stable fiber quality.

During the acid pickling process, they remove metal deposits and solid impurities to extend the service life of the acid solution and ensure a consistent surface finish on workpieces.
Sintered Mesh Vs. Standard Mesh
Sintered from multiple layers of stainless steel woven mesh, this cartridge delivers a micron rating of 1–200 μm. It is well-suited to high-precision filtration processes and high differential pressure environments (≥ 10 bar). Also, it offers excellent high-temperature resistance and performs reliably in catalyst recovery processes.
This filter cartridge generally uses single or multiple layers of woven wire mesh without sintering, with a nominal micron rating of 5–1,000 μm. It is designed for high-flow, low differential pressure conditions (≤ 5 bar) where a moderate micron rating is enough to meet your application requirements.
Données techniques
Stainless steel mesh filter cartridges are flexible and can be customized into various shapes according to your needs to fit various industry-standard filter housings.

Yes, they can. We’ve designed these cartridges to handle a wide range of chemical environments, but the right material and seal really depend on what you’re filtering. The chemical type, its concentration, and your operating temperature all matter.
For general acids or alkalis at low to medium temperatures, SS304 is a reliable choice. If chlorides or most acid, alkali, and salt solutions are involved, SS316L is what we usually recommend. It gives you better temperature resistance than 304 under those conditions.
When it comes to truly aggressive environments, such as concentrated hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, or wet chlorine gas, we strongly recommend going with Hastelloy and PTFE seals. That combination is proven to hold up where standard stainless steels won’t.
Yes, absolutely. One of the big advantages of stainless steel mesh filter cartridges is that they can be cleaned and reused many times without losing performance. We’ve got customers who’ve been running the same cartridges for years with regular cleaning.
You’ve got options when it comes to cleaning methods. Backflushing, pressure washing, ultrasonic cleaning, or chemical cleaning all work well depending on your setup. After cleaning, just let the cartridge air dry and it’s ready to go back into service.
The cartridge actually withstands differential pressure, not system pressure. System pressure is handled by the housing. The maximum allowable differential pressure depends on the material, number of layers, and support structure.
- Non-sintered pleated mesh: ≤ 5 bar;
- Sintered-mesh (including pleated types): 4–10 bar;
- Multi-layer sintered mesh with heavy-duty support: up to 20 bar.
The selection of the micron rating for stainless steel wire mesh filter cartridges should refer to the ISO 4406 hydraulic oil cleanliness code, which reflects the number of particles of different sizes in the oil. This selection depends on the critical components (pumps, valves, servos) in the hydraulic system.
Generally, for high-precision hydraulic components, 3–25 μm is typically used; for general industrial hydraulic systems, 25–50 μm is typically used; for large, high-flow hydraulic equipment, 50–100 μm is typically used.
How long a stainless steel mesh filter cartridge lasts in high-flow applications comes down to a handful of core factors. These cover contaminant concentration in the process fluid, the filter cartridge’s pore size, operating flow rate, and the material and structure of the cartridge itself.
Under standard high-flow operating conditions, the cartridge will run continuously and reliably for several months or longer, provided you select the correct pore size and mesh layers and carry out routine cleaning and maintenance.
If your system handles heavily polluted fluids, we strongly recommend regular backflushing or cleaning. This helps extend the filter cartridge’s service life and ensures the stability and filtration efficiency of your system.
